What is the Bro TKD Open?
The Bro TKD Open, the Brownsville Taekwondo Open, is a taekwondo tournament hosted by Galvan’s Martial Arts at the Brownsville Sports Park gym. It is one of six tournaments on the CTF (Chinmukwan Taekwon-Do Federation) circuit; the other five are run by other schools.
It is a taekwondo tournament, not a karate tournament, though plenty of families call it one. Students from any school are welcome, from beginners to black belts and from kids to adults.
Why is it called “Your First Tournament”?
Because it is built for competitors who have never stepped into a ring before, as well as for the ones who have. Divisions are grouped by age and belt rank, by weight for sparring, and by gender in most adult divisions, so a first-timer competes against people at their own level.
You do not have to train at Galvan’s Martial Arts to enter. Every school is welcome.

What can you compete in?
There are four events. Divisions are by age, belt rank, weight (for sparring) and gender. See how the divisions work and the rules for each event.
Forms
Traditional patterns, judged on technique, power, focus and stance.
Sparring
Kicks score 2 points, punches 1. Gloves, foot pads and headgear required.
Board breaking
Wood only, up to 3 stations. Bring your own boards and holders.
Weapons
Traditional weapons only, such as bo staff, nunchaku and sai.
